We'd been performing Christmas concerts, using these arrangements, for years at churches and coffee houses. When the tremendous generosity of some friends created the opportunity to record our Christmas music we jumped right on it, recording all the tracks at the beautiful Cascade Recording studio in Cle Elum, Washington.
This recording has a very distinct flavor to it, brought by the folky instrumentation of hammered-dulcimer, recorder, violin, mandolin, upright bass, acoustic guitar, and wonderfully creative percussion elements. The fifteen tracks are pretty evenly divided between five Christmas songs that most people would be familiar with, five that people who have sung in choirs might know, and five that are relatively obscure. It's a rewarding mix of melodies and musical textures and that gives the performances of each of the musicians a chance to shine.
It seems like every Christmas, we get a call or an email from someone just letting us know that the Brent & Celeste Christmas CD is their favorite Christmas CD. That gives us great joy.
